✅ You need to factor in the summer heat!
Here are six activities you can choose for your next school holiday program. Each of these can fit easily into your program. The best part? Because it's all DIY you don't need to worry about booking a bus or bringing in outside contractors. These are great value activities that tick all the boxes.
The Problem: You need activity ideas that fits your service and works during summer
The Solution: Six activity ideas that tick all the boxes:
1. Water Royale: An water tag game using rented, matching blasters and scoring vests. The goal: have fun and splash everyone
6. Craft Karaoke: turn a craft project into a musical time, it's time for karaoke with the kids' very own crafted microphones
The Takeaway: Hosting these six activities at your OSHC is a sure way to fill out your holiday program with active games, movement, and laughter.
Our top pick for summer school holidays! This DIY Incursion is super convenient. Pick a package size that suits your service: 12 pack, 24 pack, 36 pack etc. You can rotate throughout the day, so everyone gets a go. If you book a 12 pack, you can entertain up to 48 kids over the day.
In a 12 pack, you get 12 Water Blasters. Hiring water soakers is ideal because everyone gets the same type. Fair = fun. When one of the kids show up to the water play day with a massive battery powered water blaster, it can be discouraging for the other kids. Water Royale evens the playing field.
Everyone gets a water vest. There are two teams in Water Royale: Red and Blue. In a 12 pack, you get 6 Red vests and 6 Blue vests. The vests have a cavity. The idea is to blast people on the other team to fill up that space. A floating indicator will go up and go during the game.
After 5 or 10 minutes, call “Game Over” and bring everyone together. Count how many kids on each team have their indicator floated up to the top. The team with the least members who got completely soaked win!
This game is super fun and, even better, a great way to cool off outside. Find a shady space around some trees and fill up the buckets and start the game. Be warned, as the referee, you’ll probably get soaked too!
Groove. Boogey. Jive.
This activity is all about dancing. Silent Disco is a modern take on an old idea.
With Silent Disco, everyone gets their own wireless headphones and control over their own volume. The headsets glow, making the activity super fun. You can play music directly from your service's dedicated smart device.
Enjoy the party all day – turn down the lights within your centre or at the school hall to a disco experience.
Lights! Dance! Action! The new kid on the block: Glow Pods transform ordinary spaces into colourful, interactive playgrounds where kids can run, play, dance and invent their own games.
Simply switch the Glow Pods on, spread them around your play area (indoors or outdoors), dim the lights, and let the fun begin.
Every tap changes the colour of the Glow Pod, encouraging movement, imagination and endless games.
Fun Activity Hire sends you a booklet with game ideas. Some are competitive, some are cooperative – choose which one works best for your group.
These games build creative thinking, teamwork skills, agility, and focus.
This activity has been popular across Australia for over ten years.
Laser Tag in a Box has delivered packages to thousands of Vacation Cares in that time. Educators love it because it’s:
✅Safe & Inclusive: Infrared beams, no projectiles, suitable for all ages
✅ Kid-Approved: Preppies delighted & big kids excited
✅ Screen-Free & Active: Gets everyone moving
Laser Tag can be played indoors around a school hall. This keeps kids active and cool all day long. You don’t need to turn off the lights. Laser Tag works in all light: outdoors or indoors. All you need to do is switch the taggers on!
If you’re planning to play laser tag indoors, consider what obstacles you’ll use. Laser Tag is high-tech hide-and-seek so you’ll need hiding spots. The minimum is 1 per player, but the more hiding spots the more enjoyable and safe the activity. Consider adding Inflatable Obstacles to your order to create a pop-up maze.
I'll let you in on a secret. You can bundle these four activities together in hire.
Book one, two, three or all four through Fun Activity Hire online or over the phone.
Hire Water Royale for 1 Day, then add on Silent Disco for the day after, and get them both delivered together. This is super convenient!
Or you can try out Silent Disco + Glow Pods + Laser Tag for three days of fun. Hint: you can reuse the Glow Pods to create awesome “disco” lighting for your Silent Disco day.
Fun Activity Hire organises delivery and collection, meaning all you need to do is lead the fun.

For this activity you’ll need some balloons and some pool noodles. There are a bunch of different ways to play this game.
Move the balloons:
Set out some hula-hoops on either side of the playing space, one side is for Red Team, one side for Blue Team.
Throw into the air a balloon and challenge the kids to a game of “keep-uppy” as they keep the balloons floating in the air all the way over to the hoops. If the balloon falls to the ground outside of a hoop... no points!
Each team gets a point for every balloon in their hoops at the end of the game. Reset by collecting all the balloons and starting again.
Playing with handball courts
Have each player stand in one of the squares. Their goal is to keep the balloon from landing in their square (or outside of it!). Players can hold the pool noodles on both ends to give them more control.
The great thing about using pool noodles is that they are soft play.
First off, you’ll want to run a craft activity where each children designs their own microphone. This can be done with some typical craft supplies: stickers, pipe-cleaners, paper, cardboard, and sticky tape.
Once everyone has their microphones, it’s time to sing! Pull up YouTube Kids on the big screen. Find a playlist with subtitled songs and click “play”. Now it’s a sing along as each kid sings into their microphone and becomes an “instant pop star”.
